Eyesight
Research into Age-related Macular Degeneration through Fight For Sight (£50k pa) and the British Council for the Prevention of Blindness (£50k pa)
Grants to Sightsavers International (£25k pa) and Orbis (£5k pa) for prevention and treatment of blindness internationally
Royal National Institute of Blind People (£15k pa) for producing reading material for the visually impaired
Computer Aid International (£19k) to develop software that aids visually impaired people in developing countries
Vision Aid - providing assistance and support to the severely visually impaired and their families (£10k)

Liver
Research into Primary Liver Cancer. Awards made through the British Liver Trust (£75k pa)
Research into extent of hazardous drinking at home. Award made through the British Liver Trust (£25k)
Production of booklet providing a layman's explanation of the diagnosis and treatment of liver cancer (£10k)

Art
Royal British Society of Sculptors (£42k pa) to fund two three-month residencies in Pietrasanta, Italy
Awards for art graduates completing a BA at a NW University and progressing to MA in the NW, administered by the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts (NADFAS) (£10k pa)
Grants to Art Departments at 25 schools and colleges in Lancashire (£75k)
